About Avanti NanoSciences
Avanti NanoSciences is focused on
the Life Science market segments that consistently demand new and
innovative technologies to further research, development and
clinical capabilities. These markets already represent a $32 billion
opportunity that is rapidly growing based on the availability of new
and innovative enabling technologies. Capturing market share with
attractive and sustainable returns on investment is definitely
achievable.
Despite their value, current
technologies have significant limitations preventing their utility
in broader research and diagnostic applications where rapid,
accurate and cost-effective analysis of multi parameter testing is
critical. Current immunological or PCR based methods do not provide
a high level of sensitivity or reproducibility and are expensive and
time-consuming. Various template amplification technologies provide
sensitive and reproducible analysis but are limited to analyzing up
to 4 to 5 genes at a time and thereby become prohibitively expensive
for monitoring larger sets of expressed biomarkers.
Avanti NanoSciences is developing a
innovative detection and monitoring process referred to as
Life Sciences at Speed of Light (LSSL).
LSSL integrates a number of well-defined procedures in a proprietary
and innovative manner that allows for significant technical
advantages over existing biomarker detection and monitoring
techniques as well as dramatic cost-savings on a per biomarker
basis. Avanti’s proprietary NanoBindi/GateKeeper ID technology
platform can rapidly identify and monitor multiple targets
simultaneously from a single sample with levels of sensitivity,
reproducibility, and accuracy equal to or better than today's
standards for single target detection, thus far surpassing the
performance of current multi-target detection diagnostic platforms.
Importantly, no other solution
addresses the needs of life science applications requiring both a
high density and high throughput at the same time. Traditional
ELISA, real-time PCR and other technologies that excel at
high-throughput applications (greater than 1000 samples per day)
lack the ability to multiplex more than 5 tests at a time. On the
other hand, microarray technology excels in high-density screening
(greater than 250-plex tests) — but lacks the reproducibility needed
for high-throughput applications. The requirement of robotic sample
dispensing and labile reagents is another limitation of these
technologies and introduces variability in the assay system. The
reagent-free methodology being developed by Avanti NanoSciences with
multi-parameter testing of target molecules with parallel processing
offers unique market advantages in this competitive market place.
The current biomarker
detection, identification and monitoring systems rely on complex
technology that is laboratory based and tend to be time-consuming,
expensive, and requires relatively large samples and process
methodology steps that increase the risk of process and human error.
Even though there are number of companies developing different
nanoparticles, there are very few companies that develop life
science applications using nanoparticles. Most companies use either
cytotoxic heavy metal cages (Quantum dots) or expensive gold or
silver nanoparticles. Avanti Nanosciences’ uses their proprietary
NanoBindis-commonly used fluorescent dye core with inexpensive
silica shells. Our strategy to develop domain specific
bionanotechnology applications and IP Estate, will establish and
help us maintain a leadership position in this fast growing market
segment.
